Filling a Gap
Having a baby is a game changer!
In the 21st century you can find all the information and resources you could ever need for pregnancy, birth and parenting, but there is a real void when it comes to information about what happens after the baby is born.
The postpartum experience gets very little attention, whether it’s access to information or good quality care in the days and weeks after birth.
This virtual doula addresses typical concerns that arise, and is available at any time of day or night(!), to help mothers (and partners) make this important transition to parenthood with confidence and competence.
Babies don’t come with operating instructions!
As an empowering and reassuring resource about the adjustment to life after birth, new parenthood, and the normal challenges this time presents, Digital Doula®2.0 brings time tested postnatal wisdom into the 21st century in a format for an international audience that this generation of childbearing women understand.
Dr. Diane S. Speier
Dr. Diane S. Speier has been a birth professional for more than 40 years whose main focus has been on the postpartum period, offering groups and classes to new mothers and babies for decades.
Diane started attending births as a doula in 1978, and her passion for helping mothers evolved into a nurturing doula service for birth and postpartum home care.
As the author of Life After Birth: A Parent’s Holistic Guide for Thriving in the Fourth Trimester (Praeclarus Press, 2019), Diane addresses this gap in the provision of useful information for the postpartum experience.

Digital Doula® was originally launched in 2013 in collaboration with her daughter, Mariel Sands, using the first draft of the book’s content.
The purpose of Digital Doula® was to help new parents, especially new mothers, to move positively through the postpartum period and beyond. The original was a very different app to Digital Doula®2.0!
It was the first postnatal app to be created, and people loved the content. Here are a couple of the comments about the original app that we received:
“I wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying your app. Very well written, insightful and full of useful information for me (I’ve just had my first child, a daughter – 4 weeks old).”
“I’ve only skimmed through the digital doula app and so far I am delighted. It is at the same time factual, explains why ‘things’ are important, why they are as they are, how they could be improved and above all gives real caring support, answers to the innumerable questions and viable solutions to difficult situations. I would say ‘a must’ for every new Mum and pregnant woman.”
Welcome to Digital Doula®2.0!
While editing Life After Birth: A Parent’s Holistic Guide for Thriving in the Fourth Trimester, decisions had to be made about what content would be included in the book, and what could be shared in the app.
If you haven’t read the book, we hope you find the material to be informative and valuable as a stand-alone postpartum resource.
If you have read the book, you’ll find the information in the various Parts of the app to be complementary and supplemental to what you’ve read.
Combined they are a powerhouse of knowledge and wisdom on life after birth.
The app is a great way to access the links cited throughout the book — live links for further exploration, and active sources of information listed in each Part of the app, along with links specific to the corresponding Part of the app.
We are very excited to be launching this updated and upgraded app on a cross-platform basis. The original app was only available in iOS format, but this one is available on iOS and Android.
We hope you enjoy your experience of Digital Doula®2.0 and that you will consider reviewing it in the app store from which you purchased it.
Blessed be.
